The second rugby tournament in Phnom Penh!
The Cambodia Rugby Federation invited us again to participate in the Get Into Rugby tournament, on the 25th of February 2020 (learn more about the previous tournament here).
This time, we were able to give the opportunity to come to 62 students from Krousar Thmey, Anjali House and Sunrise Cambodia! For some of them it was their first time ever in a competition, and they were very glad to participate, even though the idea of being far from home was a little bit scary at first.
The group which attended the previous tournament already knew what it is like, so they were also very excited to be on the field again! The mood was upbeat!
The teams were composed of a mix of the different schools and students with different abilities. Thus, they had to team up quickly and learn how to adjust with teammates they are not used to play with. It was also the opportunity to make new friends outside of the field!
Our 5 teams, Lion, Shark, Fox, Tiger and Elephant played matches against each others and against other teams from different cities. Our U18 male team and U13 female team won their matches!
After, they started game situations assisted by different coaches, to give them advices as they train. The trainers took time to stop the games and to show them what they should do in different situations in order to improve their skills.
The rugby trainers Jean-Baptiste and Leak were very proud of them and the way they listen and learn quickly on the field. It is very encouraging for the incoming trainings!
At the end of the day, the whole squad was thinking about one thing: rest their legs after a long day of games and practice.
The next morning, before leaving Phnom Penh, we did a quick stop at the Royal Palace, as some of them never saw it. A moment they will not soon forget!
The way back was very quiet (even if there were some twists), as they were tired from their demanding day. They arrived in Siem Reap with a huge smile on their faces and tons of memories to share!
